Great Question! The beauty of our scene is that we meet every single Wednesday so there are plenty of opportunities to get on the mic. What happens every Wednesday fluctuates mostly between open mics and slams.

How Does an Open Mic Work?

Our Open Mics are open to everyone. You are given the opportunity to read one poem under 5 minutes! Our sign up list is consistently posted at 7:30 PM every week. A quick heads up - sometimes a line to sign up starts before 7:30 PM, so you may want to get there a little bit earlier as our open spots fill up fast! No worries, if you don't get a spot that night, you're guaranteed a spot the next week if you put your name on the list.

HOW DOES A POETRY SLAM WORK?

Signing up for our poetry slams works the exact same way as our open mics; however, they function a little differently. A poetry slam is a competitive event in which poets perform their work and are judged by members of the audience. Typically, the host or another organizer selects the judges, who are instructed to give numerical scores (on a zero to 10 or one to 10 scale) based on the poets' content and performance. The high score and the low score are dropped and the rest are added to give the poet their score for that round. The scores are added across the rounds and a final score it tallied and the top 3 scores win cash prizes. 2 Rounds. Again, sometimes a line to sign up starts before 7:30 PM, so you may want to get there a little bit earlier as our open spots fill up! No worries, if you don't get a spot that night, you're guaranteed a spot the next week if you put your name on the list.
